Public Bodies Register
Every UK arm's-length body in the Cabinet Office directory for 2023/24: what it spends, who sponsors it, and how it is held to account.
Read the totals carefully. 61% of this expenditure is money these bodies pass onward as grants, to schools, universities, research and health providers. A body near the top of the table is usually a payment channel rather than a consumer of the money, which is why grants are shown beside the total. Spending is a record of what flows through a body. It is not a measure of how well it performs, and nothing here ranks any body as good or bad. What is actually inside the total.
By classification
The categories carry very different amounts of money. Advisory bodies are the most numerous and the smallest.

About this register
- Published annually by the Cabinet Office Public Bodies Team, one year in arrears. It covers non-departmental public bodies, executive agencies and non-ministerial departments. It does not cover local government, the NHS below NHS England, or public corporations outside its scope, so it is not a list of everything in the public sector.
- Every total on this page was recomputed from the per-body rows and checked against the headline figures published in the same spreadsheet. All eleven matched exactly. The loader refuses to write if any of them disagree.
- “Register of interests” and “public minutes” are the body’s own returns to the Cabinet Office, not an independent audit of whether those documents are easy to find.
